This Week at TIP: February 22, 2010

This is our last week at TIP before our spring break.

In language arts this week we will be focusing on the letter Vv. We will talk about different vegetables and make some from origami. On Friday, we will have a “Vegetable soup sharing party”, when we will each bring a vegetable to share, then make a big pot of soup for snack time.

Preschool children have been spending a lot of time thinking, drawing and sharing ideas on what kind friends and good students do. We have drawn pictures and read some books together. One of our favourites is “David goes to School”. This week, we will make our own version of this book. We will also continue our number and writing learning centres and independent learning activities. Have a great week!

How fast the months are passing by! We will begin a new Unit of Inquiry this week, titled “Faces and Places of our School”. We will explore how schools are organized to help us live and learn together. This week we will begin by finding out what students know about our school, who works here, and what is their job.

Children have gained a lot of confidence in their story telling journals recently, and are trying very hard to label pictures with letters and words, and attempt to write an accompanying sentence, almost independently.

In Japanese class this week, children will celebrate Setsubun no hi (節分の日) with some bean throwing.

We look forward to seeing you all at the Student-Parent-Teacher conferences this week. Have a good week!
